CMC3 Foundation Scholarships

Cynthia A. Speed, President

The CMC3 Foundation Board awards approximately $9100 in scholarship funds to deserving students in the form of two types of scholarships.  They are the “AMATYC Competition Scholarship" and the “CMC3 Foundation Scholarship".  An “AMATYC Competition Scholarship” is awarded to each one of the top five finalists from our CMC3 region In the Student Math League Competition and the checks range from $500 to $200.  A “CMC3 Foundation Scholarship" is a $400 check awarded to students from approximately one-third of our 56 member colleges. There is a three year cycle in awarding the fifty-six $400 scholarships.  The 56 colleges are partitioned into three groups and scholarships are offered to each group on a rotating basis. The ultimate goal of our CMC3 Foundation Board is to award the “CMC3 Foundation Scholarships "  to all 56 colleges every academic year.

For the academic year 2007-2008, the CMC3 Foundation Board has issued $1500 in checks to the top five AMATYC Competition winners from northern and central California, and also has issued $6800 to seventeen member colleges in the form of $400 scholarship checks.      For the $400 checks, the “CMC3 Foundation Scholarship" criteria are as follows:

The student  has

  1.  completed first semester Calculus or higher,
  2.  declared Mathematics, Physical Science, Computer Science, or Engineering as a major,

  3.  earned more than 30 semester or 45 quarter units and plans to transfer to an accredited four-year college or university for the next academic year, and

  4. earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
